Today, a new week has started again. It has become quite warm, and it seems that many schools have their entrance ceremonies today. It is a seasonal event during cherry blossom time, and it makes me feel a bit nostalgic as I remember my own school days.
The weather has become warmer, and my body feels more comfortable, but spring weather is never very stable. And when it gets warm, I somehow feel sleepy… maybe it’s just my imagination…😅 Anyway, I’d like to keep working at my own pace this week. I also need to decide on my next pieces soon. I’m planning to work on requests from Hakone Ichiba, but I’m also thinking that I should continue working on the orders I’ve been receiving since last year. Otherwise, I might not finish them in time for the Christmas season at the end of the year.
Today, I mainly worked on Mame puzzle boxes. With attaching the panels today, the 18-steps Mame puzzle boxes are now fully assembled. This time, there are two types of designs for the top panel, but the side panels use the same traditional yosegi pattern. So today, I glued both types at the same time. If possible, I plan to move on to the finishing work tomorrow.
For another piece, I worked on the top panel for a 4-sun 14-steps puzzle boxes that I am currently making. I plan to use a random wood grain design for part of it. When I first looked at the wood, I felt that the contrast between the two types was not very strong, so I thought about adding a lighter wood in between. But today, when I actually glued just the two types together, the difference in their colors looked clearer than I expected. It might have been the right choice. The bubinga wood feels a bit similar to the nyatoh wood that I often use. The color is close, but the texture is quite different. This time, the overall tone turned out more calm and subdued, but I think it has its own charm. Since I just glued it, I need to let it dry a little more before I can cut it. I plan to cut it and attach it tomorrow.
