Today, I continued working on the 2-sun puzzle box and the 4-sun 27-step puzzle box from yesterday. As the Christmas sales season is about to pick up, I am focusing on producing as much inventory as possible to meet the demand.

As seen in the photo, I attached walnut wood as side panels for the 2-sun box. This enhances the vibrant solid wood top panel. After that, I worked on creating the outer boards for the Aruki-panel sections. It’s been a while since I last made these small parts, so it took some effort to get back into the process.
This box has one Kannuki(slide key)-panel, but the gluing area for the sliding key is very small, which makes it challenging to decide the ideal ratio for the adhesive surface. Since it’s been a while, I hope the mechanism functions smoothly.

In addition, I worked on the frame sections of the 4-sun 27-step puzzle box. Although it hasn’t been assembled yet, this box has already sold out, so I am making it for the next round of inventory. As with the previous batch, I plan to create both the traditional Yosegi type and a version featuring Zebra-wood for the top panel.

Recently, the weather in Japan has turned quite cold, and this morning felt as chilly as it usually does around the end of the year. In Japan, the coldest period tends to start from late December to early January. Although we had many hot days this year, the recent chill reminds me that the New Year is just around the corner. In Japan, Ōmisoka (New Year’s Eve) and Oshōgatsu (New Year’s Day) are especially regarded as important days.
