From today the weather seems to be turning a little, and this afternoon the sky was cloudy. I can’t remember a time when I felt so happy to see clouds 😅 Tomorrow and the next day are forecast to bring rain—I hope we get at least a little.

Today I continued working on the 5-sun, 4-sun, and 4.2-sun boxes. I also reviewed my production schedule up until the end of the year. All of the current made-to-order requests should be completed in time for the Christmas sales. Alongside these, or in between them, I’m planning to make some limited-edition boxes as well.

For the 4.2-sun box, I prepared the materials today. They haven’t yet been shaved down to the final thickness, but I roughly cut them to size and counted the pieces. Since it has been a while, I checked the dimensions carefully as I worked. With the 4-sun boxes, I’ve made them so often that I already know the measurements by heart. But for the 4.2-sun size, I used my own design drawings to confirm the dimensions of the wood.
Luckily, even though the weather turned cloudy, it was just enough to help the side panels I glued yesterday (with the checkered yosegi pattern) dry well for the 4.2-sun box. By the way, it may be cloudy, but the temperature is still around 35°C 😂

I am currently making a list of the products I will be able to produce next year. This is proving to be quite difficult, and it’s hard to make clear plans. The main reason is that I don’t know when yosegi sheets will become available. Since their completion is uncertain, it makes scheduling impossible.
Because of this, I’ve decided it’s best not to rely on them too much. I plan to reduce the number of products using traditional yosegi as much as possible, or raise their prices, while at the same time increasing the number of original products. It seems there is no other way. By “original,” I mean everything from boxes that are only slightly different in shape to designs that cannot be found anywhere else.

By the way, as I shared on Facebook yesterday, among the 4-sun boxes I am currently making, there are four with a striped pattern. This yosegi was actually made several years ago—five or six years, to be exact. Since then, I had only used a little of it. The sheets were already applied to boards and kept ready for use at any time. These were not applied by me, but by someone who used to work together with me here. Seeing them again brings back fond memories…thanks😊
This time, I decided to use a little of it again. Since the side panels are simple agathis wood, I hope to be able to offer these boxes at a slightly more affordable price.
