4 sun cube box

My works

28-Aug-2024

This week has been marked by a typhoon. Although the typhoon is still far from my area, its large size has brought occasional heavy rain and strong winds since yesterday. It is expected to come closest to our region later this week. I have made some preparations. Typhoon season in Japan will last until around November. I hope there won’t be too many typhoons this year.

Currently, I am working on a 4-sun cube puzzle box box alongside the 54-step puzzle box. As I mentioned before, this time, it will feature a standard 14-step mechanism. The top and bottom panels will be made with traditional yosegi, while the side panels will have the natural wood design. I may also add a box with natural wood on both the top and bottom surfaces. The photo shows the framework of the 4-sun cube box. It’s been a while since I last made the 4-sun cube box. so I’m making this box in a small quantity to create something a bit unique. With so many traditional yosegi puzzle boxes being sold worldwide, I think it would be less interesting to use the same patterns and designs.

I will also continue to write about the process of making this box. The 4-sun double-compartment puzzle box I mentioned earlier is now in the finishing stage, and it will be completed soon.
and I’ve also started making traditional-style 4-sun 27-step puzzle box for Hakone market. I always work on several projects simultaneously. This is because some steps, such as gluing, require the box to be left untouched for a full day. Since I can’t proceed with that box’s next process immediately, I work on another box’s process in the meantime.

This 4-sun 27-step puzzle box for the Hakone market will have traditional yosegi on the top and bottom panels, while the side panels will feature a unique striped pattern. The photo shows traditional yosegi sheets I pasted today for the top and bottom panels. You might remember that a month ago, I made the 2-sun cube 4-step box with drawers using the same striped pattern for the Hakone market. I’ll be using that pattern again for this project. This is the second time I’m making the 4-sun 27-step box with this design. The previous one was well received, and I’ve received another order from a Hakone wholesaler. The striped pattern on the side panels is a very Japanese design and looks beautiful. I’m considering making the striped pattern like this for my own boxes as well 😊
