I made progress on several tasks again today. First, I completed the final coating for the 2-sun boxes I’ve been working on, and they’re now finished. However, since it’s been a while since I last made these, a couple of boxes (two, to be exact) ended up with defects. It seems I accidentally attached the side panels upside down. Well, mistakes like this happen from time to time, right?😅
The 2-sun boxes are undeniably cute in appearance, but due to their small mechanisms, the Kannuki parts (slide key) can be a bit tricky to move. That said, I’m open to making more if I receive another request in the future.
Next, I worked on the production of a 4-sun 27-step puzzle box. Today, I completed attaching the side panels. Since the box needs to sit overnight in this state, I’ll continue with the next steps tomorrow. Perhaps because I recently made the same type of box, the process went very smoothly this time.
Although the general steps for making Japanese puzzle boxes are quite similar, each type of box has unique dimensions and shapes, which means there are specific details to watch out for during production. That’s why I sometimes find myself struggling a bit when making a particular type after a long time, as with the 2-sun box I mentioned earlier😂
The Kannuki panels for this 27-step box are already prepared, so I plan to attach them tomorrow.
This year is coming to an end in about two weeks, but I plan to make once 5-sun box (probably the 27-step) before the year is over.
