It is now the weekend. I had been waiting each day for autumn to arrive, and to my surprise this morning was very cool, with the temperature at 19°C. It even felt a little chilly. During the day it became somewhat warmer, but the humidity was very low, which shows that the climate is shifting toward autumn.
Unusually, I did some machine work this afternoon. It was cloudy, but since the humidity had dropped, I attached the Aruki panels (sliding guide panels) for the 4-sun 18-steps boxes that I had prepared in the morning. Since it may rain again tomorrow, after attaching them I stored the boxes in a humidity-controlled case. The photo is a bit messy 😅, but it shows the panels being attached.
I also began preparing for the next project, the 4-sun 27-steps boxes. The first step is attaching the Yosegi sheets. I prepared boards for attaching the two-color Ichimatsu Yosegi sheets for the side panels, and also MDF boards for the top and bottom panels. For now I plan to use the two-color type of Ichimatsu Yosegi, but it is not fixed, so I may change it. Since I have used the usual four-color type for the past two projects, I thought it might be nice to do something different this time.
As I wrote yesterday, I am now making a trial piece because I want to test a new type of top and bottom panels for the 27-steps boxes. It takes a bit of extra work, but it seems possible to create a style that could not easily be made with the methods I have used until now.
However, since it is difficult to produce in large numbers, the production will be in small quantities, and the price may be a little higher. These will likely be limited edition boxes. Still, depending on the ideas, I can create new patterns each time, which makes it exciting.
By the way, including made-to-order pieces, the boxes I have currently decided to make next are: another round of 4-sun 27-steps, 4-sun 10-steps with a drawer, 3-sun cube 14-steps and 18-steps, and 5-sun 10-steps with a drawer. Not many of them will be traditional Yosegi models, but I hope I can try some experimental ideas again.
Have a good weekend! 😄
