I had some errands to run today, so I was out for a bit, but I managed to make progress on a few tasks. Work on the 4-sun double compartment puzzle box is continuing smoothly. Today, I attached the Aruki panels (moving panels) that I made yesterday and completed attaching the Yosegi panels to the top and bottom surfaces.
As shown in the photos, the attachment is finished. This box has a structure where two seven-step mechanisms are connected on the top and bottom surfaces, making the left-right and top-bottom Aruki identical in shape. Therefore, there are only two types of Aruki panels prepared: one type for the top and bottom surfaces and another for the “Kannuki (slide key)” sides. It’s a fairly straightforward structure overall😁
Although I haven’t included any photos here, I was also able to move on to the next step today, attaching the lid panels to the top and bottom surfaces. A small number of these will also be prepared as part of my inventory. The design features my usual combination of traditional Yosegi patterns and checkered side panels.
The majority of the production is for a slightly different design intended for the Hakone market. Unfortunately, this design won’t be available for sale here, but you might come across it in stores around Hakone.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I often prefer to work on several projects in parallel. Recently, I’ve been working on 2–3 types of projects simultaneously, and today I’ve started making 2-sun cube boxes. This time, they will feature a 12-step mechanism with a slightly unique design.
It’s my first attempt at this, so I’m not sure if it will work out, but there’s a design I’ve been wanting to try, so I decided to give it a go. These boxes will be made entirely from solid wood, and I’ll update you on the production process as it progresses. Since this is my first time testing this design and I’m uncertain about its functionality, I’ve limited the production to about 30 pieces for now.
